Republicans have a legitimate shot at recapturing the U.S. Senate this year, and taking a seat here in New Jersey would help. But, the GOP is getting little help from its candidate.

Candidate Jeff Bell is within striking distance of Democratic U.S. Senator Cory Booker, yet the Garden State's seat is not considered in play.

That's because Bell has run a limp campaign, focusing solely on the returning the country to the Gold Standard.

If you do not know what that is, neither does anybody else.

Bell trails Booker by just 11 points, according to the latest poll numbers out today.

But without an issue that resonates with voters, he is likely just another Republican, who ran for Senate in New Jersey and lost.
