A former municipal court official in southern New Jersey has been charged with stealing payments made to the court.

Burlington County prosecutors say Tracey Verduchi, who had been deputy court administrator for Florence Township, used cash bail payments for her own personal expenses. She's charged with theft.

Prosecutors say Verduchi's responsibilities included collecting court funds -- such as bail money, fines and other costs -- and depositing the money in the bank. But they say that 11 times, payments were delayed.

Authorities have not said how much was taken. Verduchi resigned her post earlier this month.

The 48-year-old Verduchi was arrested at her home Monday and later freed on bail. She declined to comment when reached by phone late Monday afternoon.
