Flooding a Concern Following Heavy Rain

The heavy rain has passed, but the threat of minor flooding remains from rivers and streams, several of which are at-or-above flood levels.

Several rivers and streams are at-or-above flood levels according to the National Weather Service flood map including the Millstone River through Franklin and Hillsborough, the Manalapan Brook in Spotswood, Assuinpink Creek in Trenton, the Rahway River in Springfield (Union County), the Manasquan River in Farmingdale and Rancocas Creek in Mt. Holly and Vincentown.

The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management reports that 30 people in Lumberton and 15 in Medford were evacuated when the Rancocas River went above flood levels. There were 5 reported water rescues in Hoboken while 2 homes were sandbagged in Branchville

A Flood Warning is in effect until 4:15 p.m. in most of the state except Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and southern Gloucester counties as the waters continue to rise during the day.

Anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of rain has fallen across the state according to NWS observations. Millstone Township in Monmouth County measured 6.22 inches of rain Greenbrook in Somerset County picked up nearly 6 inches of rain, Medford in Burlington County received 5 inches with Mount Holly, South Plainfield, Somerville, Keyport, Ewing, Hamilton (Mercer) and Glassboro getting over 4 inches.

There are delayed openings reported for the Raritan-Flemington regional school district, Readington and Middlesex boroughs.

There are still some closed roads and highways around New Jersey including:

Route 27 through Woodbridge and Rahway
Route 33 east and west in Hamilton at Route 130

NJ Tnansit crews work on repairing a washed out track bed on the Boonton-Montclair line in Towaco (NJ Transit)

NJ Transit still has suspended rail service on the Montclair-Boonton Line between Denville and Montclair State University due to a washed out rail bed in Towaco and is busing. NJT is cross-honoring system wide.

Newark Liberty has 60-90 minute delays on both arrivals and departures while LaGuardia has 90 minute delays on arrivals according to FlightAware.com

New Jersey State Police tweeted to be aware of pooling water in the roadway that could be hiding potholes and other road hazards.
