PHILADELPHIA — An American Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Boston was delayed when two confused fliers boarded the plane.

In a statement, the airline said that two people got on the plane as it was parked at the terminal for an 8 a.m. takeoff. As a result, the passengers were moved to a new plane and the flight took off around 10:45 a.m., according to FlightAware.

"Two passengers gained unauthorized access to one of our aircraft earlier this morning. Out of an abundance of caution, we are utilizing a different aircraft for the flight to Boston. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience," read a statement from American Airlines.

All passengers had already been screened and vetted by the TSA so the incident is not considered a security breach.

The airline does not suspect foul play and thinks the pair, whose identities were not disclosed, were simply confused. The secure door to the aircraft is controlled by the airport, according to the airline, and is undergoing a thorough security sweep.
