The Asbury Park Press reports that the Highlands borough council agreed Wednesday to pay Patrick DeBlasio $40,000 annually for a part-time job balancing the borough's books.

The newspaper says DeBlasio already collects about $250,000 a year for his five other public jobs.

He is the full-time chief financial officer for Carteret. He also holds part-time jobs in Keansburg, North Plainfield, the Carteret school district and in Highlands, where he is tax collector.

Highlands Mayor Frank Nolan opposed the decision to give DeBlasio another part-time job. He questioned whether DeBlasio would be able to give sufficient attention to the new job. But he was outvoted.
