James P. Holmes, 22, has the unfortunate luck of sharing both a name and state of residence with suspected movie theater shooter James Holmes, 24, who early Friday morning allegedly entered an Aurora movie theater and shot and killed 12 people and injured countless others.

Holmes took to Facebook in order to clear his name of any wrongdoing after receiving numerous friend requests and accusations of being the shooter.

In a post on his Facebook wall Holmes writes, “I appreciate the fact that you are trying to become better-informed about the occurrences last night in Aurora, but you have been somewhat mislead, in that I am not the man who did it. I am not a 24-year-old gun-slinging killer from Aurora, I am a 22-year-old book-slinging mass eater from Littleton.” The post is public for all to see on his Facebook page.

Holmes currently works in Littleton, Colorado, which is a 27-minute drive from the town where the shooter attacked the movie theater. Holmes grew up in Lakewood, Colorado and graduated in 2011 from the University of Northern Colorado as a history and English double major.

According to the Facebook post, Holmes’ girlfriend, Melissa Corsaut, has also been receiving phone calls and Facebook messages asking if she has been dating a mass shooter. According to a Facebook post made public on Corsaut’s page, multiple potential employers who are checking to make sure that she is not dating the shooter have contacted Corsaut. Corsaut and Holmes have been in a relationship since July 12.

Holmes ends his post by saying, “James Holmes happens to be a pretty common name, surprisingly, so try not to jump the gun. Regards, A different guy named James Holmes.”

Holmes has currently blocked all friend requests as he tries to distinguish himself from the shooter.
