Explosive Device Was Used As Doorstop At Little Ferry Home

Bomb squad members have safely removed an explosive device that was being used as a doorstop at a Littie Ferry home.

The ordnance was found Tuesday when a Habitat for Humanity crew supervisor noticed it at a Little Ferry home. The residence was damaged by Superstorm Sandy, and volunteers have been making various repairs.

Jacey Raimondo, executive director the charity’s Bergen County chapter, told The Record that volunteers have typically entered the house through the front door. But the supervisor noticed the device when the volunteers entered through the backyard Tuesday.

The planned work was immediately canceled and police were notified.

The homeowner told Raimondo the ordnance was in the residence when she bought it about nine years ago, and she’s since used it as a doorstop.
