Ex-State Senator Bryant Acquitted in 2nd Corruption Trial

A New Jersey judge has found former state Sen. Wayne Bryant not guilty in his second trial on corruption charges.

The 64-year-old Democrat from Lawnside had been accused of taking $192,000 in bribes in exchange for backing redevelopment projects in Camden, Pennsauken and the Meadowlands between 2004 and 2006.

The projects, all run by the North Carolina redevelopment firm Cherokee, were never completed.

The Record reports that U.S. District Judge Freda L. Wolfson found Bryant not guilty on all criminal charges in a 43-page opinion issued Friday.

It was Bryant's second trial.

He is already in federal prison serving a 2008 conviction on charges that he took a low-show pension padding job in exchange for steering state aid to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
