Rutgers University officials have confirmed that former interim senior vice president and general counsel John Wolf remains on the school's legal staff, but they say he won't hold a leadership position.

The university announced Wolf's status in a brief statement issued Tuesday afternoon.

Wolf was among the Rutgers officials who months ago viewed a video of former basketball coach Mike Rice kicking and shoving players and using gay slurs. But instead of recommending he be fired, they said he should be suspended.

That decision has sparked outrage round the nation since the video became public.

Wolf resigned his leadership post last Wednesday, the same day Rice was fired. Wolf has been an attorney at Rutgers since September 1984.

State Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver says it's "outrageously unacceptable" that Wolf remains on staff.
