East Rutherford's mayor is not excited about talk the Super Bowl could return to New Jersey.

Earlier this week at a NFL meeting in Florida, Jets owner Woody Johnson told the New York Daily News he is serious about MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford hosting another Super Bowl.

"Yeah, we are as serious as you can get," he said, according to the paper. "I think we did a good job. We raised a ton for charities. We put on a great stage. It wasn’t a great game but it was a great stage, and the weather was even extremely good. I would love to do it."

But East Rutherford Mayor John Casella is not excited about the idea — especially if the game is run in a similar fashion as it was in 2014.

"I see a lot of things that need to be changed before the state of New Jersey agrees to have a Super Bowl here,” Casella told News 12 New Jersey. He pointed out that many of the events leading up to the actual game took place in New York, not New Jersey. Casella also said that his town got stuck paying for extra security around the stadium and did not see a positive economic impact on the area.

The weather held for the first outdoor cold weather Super Bowl game, in which the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 on February 2, 2014. It was also the first game that relied heavily on public transportation to get fans to the game. Getting to the game via NJ Transit was uneventful but the trip home was another story with overcrowded trains and long waits for trains to take fans from the stadium to Seacaucus Juncton.

Giants owner John Mara also supports the game's return to New Jersey.

"I’ve spoken to Woody Johnson about it, and yeah, we think it would make sense to try to bring it back. We think it was very successful, it was great for the region, so why not have it back?" Mara said, according to the Bergen Record, pointing out that a bid would need the support of local officials.

Jim Kirkos, president of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce would like to see a return of the NFL's championship game.

"With a little bit of effort on the part of the NFL in organizing local communities like…East Rutherford and Secaucus … we can create a great product,” Kirkos told News 12.
