Police say two people entered the Divine Mercy Parish Church in Vineland Saturday, and caused a panic when they told parishioners "they were going to die due to impending natural disaster."

According to a report by Vineland Police Matthew D. King, 25 and Jose L. Galarza, both of Bridgeton interrupted the service — which was held for the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe — with their warning.

Alarmed parishioners began evacuating, police said.

"As people were running out, the two touched people in in the church, telling them Jesus loves them," police said.

The two then left, but a witness noted the license plate number of the vehicle they were using, according to police.

Police stopped the vehicle and arrested both, charging them with causing false public alarm.

King and Galarza were each held in the Cumberland County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
