Driver Charged in Lakewood Crash is Illegal Immigrant
Officials say the driver of an SUV that was involved in a southern New Jersey collision that left 15 people injured is an illegal immigrant.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Spokesman Ross Feinstein said Wednesday that once Jorge Castillo-Perez is released from custody, he will be detained by federal authorities and likely deported to Mexico.
Ocean County prosecutors said Castillo-Perez was charged with driving with a suspended license and being involved in a crash involving serious bodily injury following Tuesday's accident.
Lakewood police say Castillo-Perez was previously ticketed for driving without a license.
Authorities say the SUV driven by Castillo-Perez's hit a van carrying 13 contract workers for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, who were returning from a trip transporting vehicles.
