The dog meat festival in the Chinese city of Yulin that I posted about a year ago has started with the expected protests to accompany it. I think it’s interesting that the festival doesn’t date back centuries, but instead is referred to as being “recent”. It’s expected that 10,000 dogs will be slaughtered and eaten during the festival, with animal rights groups condemning the treatment of the dogs as “inhumane”.
