If the beheadings of 2 American journalists and various reports of extreme brutality against ethnic minorities isn’t enough to spur us into action against the enemy known as ISIS - then what will?

God forbid it be another attack on the homeland – which is always on the minds of many Americans, and certainly those of us who live in the shadow of New York City.

But was what the President laid out before the American people enough to sway you into thinking that all is under control?

Or were you thinking, as I was, that, if anything, it was an attempt to convince us he needed to get his ass off a golf course and reassure us. Reassure us that his plan to train and arm Syrian moderates could backfire.

Across the border in Syria, we have ramped up our military assistance to the Syrian opposition. Tonight, I again call on Congress, again, to give us additional authorities and resources to train and equip these fighters. In the fight against ISIL, we cannot rely on an Assad regime that terrorizes its own.

It’s a scary when you think that this same “opposition” to the Syrian president could eventually join the ranks of ISIS – ironically, with the backing of the American government – using our own weaponry and supplies against us.

And that his call for more advisors with the assurance that they will not be led into a combat mission will eventually lead to “boots on the ground!”

In June, I deployed several hundred American service members to Iraq to assess how we can best support Iraqi security forces. Now that those teams have completed their work and Iraq has formed a government, we will send an additional 475 service members to Iraq. As I have said before, these American forces will not have a combat mission.

So now, “where do we go from here?”

This is an ongoing discussion among members of Congress, and in homes across the country.

Many, in the wake of the speech, are supportive of the President. Many others, like myself, have questions.

Does arming Syrian rebels sound prudent? Will we be dragged into another land war? Do we have the appetite for that? Or is “doing nothing” the best course of “action?”

Given what you’ve either read or heard, do you support President Obama’s plan against ISIS?
