D-backs Use 5 DPs, Mets’ Miscue in 2-1 Win

Daniel Murphy dropped a throw on a force attempt at second base with two outs in the ninth inning, allowing the tiebreaking run to score, and the Arizona Diamondbacks turned five double plays to beat the New York Mets 2-1 Sunday in the opener of a single-admission doubleheader.

Bronson Arroyo induced four of the double plays in matching Mets rookie Rafael Montero for six innings. Evan Marshall (2-0) got the biggest one, though, getting Lucas Duda to ground into a 3-2-3 turn to end the eighth. Arizona matched a season high with the five double plays.

The Diamondbacks bats came through in the ninth after doing little following Chris Owings' homer in the first inning. A.J. Pollock doubled leading off against closer Jenrry Mejia (4-1) and pinch-hitter Ender Inciarte sacrificed him to third. Mejia struck out pinch-hitter Martin Prado before intentionally walking Gerardo Parra.
