A North Arlington man has been charged with killing his wife in their home.

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Eric Pleger, 46, was taken into custody after North Arlington Police came to the couple's apartment at Riverview Garden Apartments on a request for a welfare check early Friday afternoon. They found Pleger and the dead body of his wife Luisa Pleger, 48, Grewal said.

At a press conference, Grewal said Luisa had been dead for at least a full day and her death is being investigated as a domestic violence homicide according to NorthJersey.com.

Eric was taken into custody for questioning and charged with first degree murder for the death of Luisa along with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose according to Grewal.  Gurbir said once an autopsy is done a cause of death can be determined. Eric is being held on $2 million bail at the Bergen County Jail.

North Arlington Police told ABC 7 they had not responded to any domestic violence calls from the Pleger home and the couple does not have any children.
