Contractor at Fort Dix Allegedly Shook Down Workers

Two principals of a Pennsylvania construction company that did work at New Jersey’s Fort Dix have been charged with using threats to get employees to kick back part of their wages.  One is also accused of resorting to violence against a company manager.

Leonard Santos and Alex Rabinovich of Bristol-based Sands Mechanical were arrested Tuesday and appeared before a federal judge in Camden, N.J.

Prosecutors say they threatened employees into paying back a portion of their wages plus money they’d received from a settlement that found they had been underpaid.

Santos is also charged with having a manager who questioned company policies driven into with a car while he was riding a bike, and having his truck torched.

Santos pleaded not guilty. Rabinovich is expected to enter a plea Friday.
