Flight attendants joined forces on Capitol Hill today to request that members of the United States Congress make personal donations to close a $1.5 million funding gap for the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

On the eve of the tragedy's twelfth anniversary, the Flight Attendant Union Coalition distributed a letter to every member of Congress.

The Flight 93 National Memorial officially opened to the public in September 2011, but it still needs to meet its ultimate fundraising goal in order to be completed.

On September 11, 2001, crew members and passengers of Flight 93 gave their lives to prevent an attack on the United States Capitol.
