Gov. Chris Christie is planning to sign his first major education reform bill, which would allow publicly funded private schools in three New Jersey cities. The bill signing will take place Thursday at the same Camden school where Christie unveiled the plans last June.

The Democrat-controlled Legislature moved quickly on the bill even though it has been slow to act on Christie's other school overhaul plans.

Camden, Newark and Trenton could each have up to four private schools whose operating budgets would be publicly funded.

The new schools would give students and families a choice besides traditional public schools and existing charter schools.
