Christie pushes legislature for bail reform
Gov. Chris Christie is calling the legislature back to Trenton for a special session today, urging lawmakers to pass bail reform measures.
Political experts believe this is less about the bail reform and more about Christie polishing his national image.
The plan he supports would let judges keep dangerous suspects in jail, while releasing non-violent offenders, who cannot afford bail.
This issue could play well with a non-traditional Republican voting block, which he would need for any potential White House run
Christie can force lawmakers into the State House today, but cannot force them to vote.
