Christie on Sandy: Nine Months Later [POLL/AUDIO]

Governor Chris Christie is offering a progress report on the state’s recovery efforts, more than nine months since New Jersey was walloped by Superstorm Sandy.

He said it’s too early to give the state an overall grade on its comeback, because it’s far from over, but he’s very proud of the work done by his administration over the last 280 days.

“I think, on the business front, we’ve done very well,” Christie told reporters, noting that boardwalks all along Jersey’s coast were reopened in time for Memorial Day Weekend.

He admitted businesses have been recovering more quickly than homeowners, but that’s not surprising given 365,000 homes were destroyed or severely damaged on October 29th.

“I don’t think anybody in their right mind thought we were going to get everybody back in their homes within nine months,” Christie said. “This is going to be another 18-to-24-month proposition to get everybody back.”

In the same breath, the Governor assured New Jersey residents that his administration is “in it for the long haul,” and their job isn’t over until everyone’s lives are back to normal.
