What does $4.1 million get you in the world of New Jersey politics? For Gov. Chris Christie that gets you over $7 million in public matching funds for his gubernatorial general election campaign.

Christie had to get $4.1 million from private donors to be eligible for the matching funds.

The Democratic gubernatorial candidate, State Sen. Barbara Buono has raised a little under $445,000. She has also qualified for matching funds. Despite closing the gap on Christie a bit in the latest poll, Buono clearly has a long way to go if she is to have any hope of raising the kind of funds he has generated.

The election is Nov. 5. Christie is about $1 million of the limit on public funding he can use in his re-election bid.
