Satisfaction among new car buyers has been growing along with increased sales, according to one New Jersey expert.

Jim Appleton, president of the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers, said sales have been on a steady rebound since hitting a low point in 2009.

"2010, 2011, 2012 were slow crawls back," Appleton said. "2013 was a very good year."

He said retailers and auto manufacturers have been paying close attention to consumer feedback about car purchases.

"We're fond of saying that dealers want to sell what consumers want to buy," Appleton said. "They pay very close attention to what consumers are buying, the options that they want to see."

Dealers are offering more choices than ever these days, according to Appleton. Those include hybrids and all-electric rechargeables.

"Customer satisfaction with vehicles has never been higher," Appleton said. "Same is true with the choices."

Appleton said New Jersey dealers are already looking forward to a great sales year in 2014.
