HAMILTON (Atlantic) — A Camden woman was killed when the car she was riding in overturned into a retention basin along the Atlantic City Expressway on Sunday night.

Jalina Steele, 35, was a passenger in a Honda Pilot that rear-ended a Honda Odyssey on the westbound side just past the Farley Service Plaza around 8:47 p.m, according to State Police spokesman Lt. Ted Schafer.

Schafer said the Pilot hit a guardrail and overturned landing in a retention basin the center median.  He did not know how deep the basin is.

The driver of the Pilot, Luis Cream, 35, of Blackwood, faces charges yet to be determined, according to Schafer.

The Odyssey also hit the guard rail but landed back in the roadway in the center lane. Driver Brenda Reyes, 35, of Sicklerville was injured in the crash. Passenger Michael Holness, 35, also of Sicklerville, was not hurt.

Schafer said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The incident was the fourth fatality on New Jersey highways this weekend.

A man was killed trying to cross Route 9 in Sayreville on Saturday night when he was thrown over a jersey barrier and struck by several vehicles on both side of the road.

Mina Salib, 46, of East Brunswick was killed on Route 18 in Colts Neck early Saturday morning when a BMW driven by Samy Yani, 46, also of East Brunswick veered off the road at the Normandy Road bridge and struck a tree on the passenger side, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

Old Bridge Police told NJ.com one person was killed early Saturday morning in another crash on Route 18 near James Avenue. Additional details have not been disclosed.
