A county college in New Jersey has named a new leader to replace its former president, who resigned last year amid an investigation into allegations of financial impropriety.

Brookdale Community College trustees approved the appointment of Maureen Murphy on Tuesday. Murphy, the president of San Jacinto College South in Houston, Texas, will assume her new post July 1.

Murphy will be Brookdale's first female president. She'll be paid $194,000 annually.

Murphy replaces interim President William Toms, who was appointed last March after Peter Burnham who stepped down.

Burnham drew scrutiny from Monmouth County officials over perks in addition to his $216,000 salary that included a country club membership, a new vehicle and $267,000 for his two children to attend private colleges.

County prosecutors continue to investigate those allegations.
