Atlantic County Official Pleads Guilty to 2nd DUI Charge
For the second time in two years, Atlantic County Surrogate James Curcio has pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges.
The Press of Atlantic City reports that Curcio entered his plea Monday -- just minutes after his attorney had successfully argued for a delay in the case. The Hammonton resident told the newspaper he decided it "would be better to accept responsibility and bring an end to this now."
Curcio was charged April 27 after a traffic stop in Mullica Township, but the case was heard in North Wildwood Municipal Court to avoid conflicts of interest. Curcio had his driver's license suspended for two years and must serve 30 days community service.
As surrogate, Curcio oversees probate cases in Atlantic County, declined to comment at length about the charges.
