BRIDGEWATER — A pedestrian was killed on Route 22 late Sunday after being struck by two different cars.

Bridgewater Police said Marcus Cook, 25, of Bridgewater was struckby a 2008 Nissan as he walked in the westbound left lane near Adamsville Road. The impact from the Nissan, driven by Jose Luis Mondragon Zamudio, 29, of Somerville, pushed him into the center lane, where he was hit by a 2016 Lexus driven by Brittany Tapia, 19 of Martinsville.

No charges have been filed and the incident remains under investigation.

Route 22 westbound was closed for about four hours and reopened in time for the Monday morning commute.

East Brunswick residents Robert Gibbons, 29, and Magdalene Allen, 23, were killed in a car crash in the same area in August as they tried to cross Route 22.

New Jersey Fast Traffic's Bob Williams said this stretch of Route 22, with businesses in the median is outdated and is "chronically dangerous" because of cars pulling in and out of parking lots from the left lane and poor sight lines.

"You have to go from zero to 60 in a few seconds. You better be paying attention," Williams said.

Bridgewater Police asked any witnesses to Sunday night's crash to call 908-722-4111 ext 4162.
