Alleged Toll Evader From Toms River Gets Nabbed

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says its police have caught a man who allegedly evaded more than $1,000 in tolls.

Port Authority spokesman All Della Fave says 26-year-old Stephen Rivera of Toms River was arrested Tuesday morning at the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.

Rivera allegedly put a reflective covering on his vehicle's license plate so cameras wouldn't record it.

Della Fave says Rivera has evaded 23 tolls at the Holland Tunnel and George Washington Bridge since 2009. He's charged with theft of services.

A telephone number for Rivera could not be located Tuesday night.

Della Fave warned motorists that police officers are looking for people who are obscuring their plates.
