After Vote, NJ Congressman Pushing For Sports Betting
A New Jersey congressman will introduce legislation that would immediately allow his state to bet on professional sports games.
Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., a Monmouth County Democrat, says he'll introduce a bill Monday that would exempt New Jersey from a prohibition on sports betting that affects 46 states.
His bill would not allow wagering on college games.
New Jersey voters approved a non-binding referendum Tuesday, indicating they want sports betting to be legalized in their state.
But before that can happen, the state must pass a law authorizing it. And a federal ban on sports betting in all but four states must be overturned or somehow circumvented.
