Affordable housing group sues NJ, Rutgers

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Affordable housing advocates have sued Gov. Chris Christie's administration and Rutgers University, accusing them of hiding calculations used to determine how much housing each town should provide for lower-income people.

Fair Share Housing Center filed the lawsuit Monday and announced it Tuesday.

The Cherry Hill-based group had sought documents explaining the state's proposed town-by-town requirements for affordable housing. But in court papers, both the state and Rutgers said the data "could not be located."

Fair Share lawyer Adam Gordon says the response makes the state's proposed housing rules look "suspect."

In a separate suit, the group wants the administration to explain why its proposed rules were changed after they were first made public.

A spokeswoman for the state Department of Community Affairs did not immediately return a message.
