An accident on Interstate 280 this morning on Interstate 280 injured six members of an Irvington family when their SUV collided with a tractor trailer.

The road was closed  for a time at exit 10 (Northfield Avenue)  for a time during the morning commute their Honda SUV collided  with a tractor trailer that was making a left turn on an East Orange street.

Police say the impact caused the SUV to be thrown nearly 18 feet over a wall and through a retaining fence before it landed on I-280  just before exit 12 for the Garden State Parkway.

The entire family, including a 46-year-old father, 27-year-old mother and four children ranging in age from 1 to 7 years old is hospitalized.

Authorities say the 39-year-old truck driver, who is from Pennsylvania, did not request medical treatment.

No charges have been filed.
