South Brunswick superintendent placed on leave amid allegations

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — School Superintendent Jerry Jellig has been put on administrative leave by the South Brunswick Board of Education.

Members of the South Brunswick Education Association protested outside the Crossroads Middle School holding signs accusing Jellig of intimidating members, questionable spending and inappropriate behavior toward women, according to NJ Advance Media.

They planned to ask for Jellig's resignation during the meeting but board President Stephen F. Parker announced that Jellig was being placed on leave following the board's executive session, according to the news organization. Parker would not elaborate on the reasons for the decision.

District Human Resources Director Richard Chromey was named interim Superintendent until the end of June according to the news website TAP into South Brunswick.

"Thank you to our president, John Lolli, and the hundreds of SBEA members, parents, community members, fellow Middlesex County Association members, Tom Hayden and our NJEA leadership team that came out to stand united together and demand accountability and action at the South Brunswick Board of Education meeting tonight.
Together we are strong!," read a post on the SBEA Facebook page.

Jellig has served as Superintendent since 2014, according to the district website.
