RINGWOOD — Authorities say a borough police officer responded to a call of a large branch blocking part of the road ended up being struck by a falling tree.

Ringwood Police Chief Joseph Walker said Friday that Officer Douglas Faber broke his wrist and received 13 stitches on the top of his head after the tree fell on him.

The harrowing moment was caught by the police vehicle's dash camera, a recording of which the department provided to New Jersey 101.5.

Walker says Faber had bent over to pick up the branch in the road when he heard the noise of a tree falling. Walker says Faber ran but was still struck.

The 33-year-old officer has almost eight years of experience on the force.

Walker says Faber is expected to fully recover.
