This weekend as the music comes out to play, NJ101.5 is celebrating and highlighting Super Bowl halftime performers over the years. The other day I wrote about how this year's selection of Coldplay leaves me, well, cold. I just can't see America getting amped up over the schmaltzy line "and it was alllll yelloooooowwww".

It's kind of shocking to look back and see that the Super Bowl halftime shows didn't get hip until halfway through their 50 years. Early on it was pretty much nothing but marching bands and Up With People. Even in 1987 they were doing George Burns and Mickey Rooney with marching bands and Disney characters. It wasn't until 1991 that the first truly current act played the Super Bowl which was New Kids On The Block. That's when everything changed.

Here's a list of some of the more prominent acts to have played Super Bowl halftime shows for you to vote on. Let us know who you remember being the best.
