Best of North, Central and South Jersey

North Jersey
Want to learn how to pair food with beer? This event is for you! On Friday Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. The Stickley Museum Beer Pairings Event With Garrett Oliver will help you learn the art of pairing beer with food at a special event hosted by Garrett Oliver, brewmaster at the Brooklyn Brewery. Guests will enjoy a five-course small plate dinner, with each plate expertly paired by Garrett with Brooklyn Brewery craft beers.Tickets are $100 per person ($50 per ticket is tax deductible; event benefits The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms) and reservations are required. Central Jersey
Love Comic Books? This years New Jersey Comic Expo will be held on Saturday Nov. 21 to Sunday Nov. 22 at NJ Cnonvention & Expo Center; 97 Sunfield Ave in Edison. The expo is a celebration of comic books and pop culture that showcase the work of writers, artists, illustrators and creators of all types of pop culture. There will be exhibitors promoting and selling all types of related products, as well as entertaining and educational programs, guest signings and meet and greet sessions with celebrities. New Jersey Comic Expo is a MAD Event Management, LLC production. Tickets are: $45 for Weekend Pass, $30 Saturday, $23 Sunday. Buying at door will increase price of tickets.

South Jersey
From Friday Nov. 20 to Wednesday, Dec. 23 the Christmas Fantasy with Lights will be open. This has been a South Jersey tradition for over 25 years! Go and see the magical experience! Santa will be there waving his magic wand and will be lighting the park with over one million holiday lights. Santa will be in his home and will light the park until December 23. Rides, attractions and snack bars will be open. $24.95 per person, free for children under 2. Holiday Model Train Show
Event will have free Operation Lifesaver (train safety), coloring books are available for children. The massive model train layout features dozens of running trains, an operating drive-in movie theater, windmill farm, cities, mountains, bridges, tunnels, farms, industry yards and an operating roundhouse. Tickets: $5 Adults; $1 Children (under 12)

River Edge
On November 20th, 1776, five thousand British, Hessian and Loyalist troops, under command of Lt. Gen. Lord Cornwallis, scaled the Palisades at Lower Closter Dock and marched against Fort Lee. Warned by an alert officer, the American garrison escaped entrapment by safely crossing the Hackensack River at New Bridge, now known as the Bridge That Saved a Nation, and lived to fight another day. To mark the 239th Anniversary of the "times that try men's souls," the Bergen County Historical Society, along with Outwater's Militia and Fourth Battalion, New Jersey Volunteers, will co-sponsor a weekend of living history and scholarly presentations on November 21 and 22, 2015. The site opens at 11 am with various events offered:
11:00 am. George Washington will discuss these "trying times"
11:30 am. American Troops begin to assemble to defend the bridge
12:00 pm. Skirmish at the Bridge - A reenactment of the rear guard engagement that occurred at New Bridge during the retreat
1:30 pm. Lecture at the Steuben House by historian Todd Braisted
2:00 pm. Children's Drill - Demarest House

Dance Fitness Program

Santa arrives to flip the switch for the festive tree-lighting ceremony. The Physick House will be open for free. Enjoy the free Carroll Gallery exhibit, An Old-Fashioned Christmas: Holiday Traditions through the Years, featuring model trains, a giant Christmas tree, toys and  more. The exhibit will be open daily (with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas) through January 2nd.

The Mason Gross School of the Arts Extension Division and Music Department, in partnership with the American String Teachers Association of New Jersey (ASTA/NJ) is proud to present the 2015 ASTA/NJ String Symposium and All-State Workshop for teachers and students. Teachers are invited to audit workshop sessions, join in an ASTA/NJ led panel discussion, and participate in a reading session. Cost is $75 for teachers and adults participants and $25 for students. The theme this year is "O Come, All Ye Faithful".  The fair, a tradition dating back to the 1950s, includes shopping and activities for the whole family: handcrafted ornaments and  knitted items, floral topiaries and wreathes, home baked goods, frozen gourmet foods, a children’s boutique (which allows only youngsters to shop for family and friends at appropriate prices), photos with Santa, and more!  Lunch is sold from 11:30 until 1. Admission to the fair is free.  This year, free babysitting from 1:15-2:15 will be offered to shoppers.   All proceeds from the Fair are used to fund mission programs such as the Community Soup Kitchen, Interfaith Hospitality Network, and From Houses to Homes
