March 17th, 1978 - U2 wins a talent contest in Dublin. They won $850.00 and a chance to audition for CBS Ireland. The Limerick Civic Week Pop Competition was sponsored by The Evening Express and Guinness Harp Lager.

March 8th, 1965 - David Bowie makes his television debut. It's on a UK program called "Gadzooks! It's All Happening" and was with The Manish Boys. They performed their single 'I Pity The Fool.'

March 1st, 1969 - Jim Morrison of The Doors is charged with indecent behavior after a show in Miami. He had showed the audience "little Jim" and was found guilty and sentenced to 8 months hard labor.

February 15th, 1968 - John Lennon and George Harrison, joined by their wives, flew to India to study meditation under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Ringo and Paul would later join them however

February 2nd, 1976 - Genesis releases 'A Trick Of The Tail', their 7th studio album and the first featuring drummer and lead vocalist Phil Collins.

January 18th, 1964 - The Beatles have their first US hit with 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' as it enters the charts on this day. It entered at No.45 just ten days after its release

January 11th, 1958 - Elvis Presley will have to wait one more week for the release of his single 'Jailhouse Rock.' The record pressing plant in the UK is not able to meet the advance order sales of 250,000 copies.

January 5th 1973 - Bruce Springsteen releases his debut album 'Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.' It was recorded in a single week and would only sell about 25,000 copies in its first year.

December 28th, 1983 - Dennis Wilson of Beach Boys fame, and only genuine surfer of the group, takes one last dive into the Pacific in Marina Del Rey, California. He had previously made two other successful dives
