Imagine pulling out your phone instead of a wallet next time you need to prove your identity. New Jersey is making that a reality.

As in-person Real ID appointments at NJ MVC offices continue to be a hassle, Majority Leader Lou Greenwald has introduced a bill that would require the MVC to establish and administer an online application for the Real ID.

You may not fit the criteria though.

They're adding appointments on a certain day of the week.

Up until recently that was the law in Jersey, you had 30 days after the death of your spouse to update your vehicle registration otherwise you could be ticketed for driving it.

Until this week, registrants could only apply for the emergency contacts list online or by mail.

A previous law signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in 2019 had required proof of Social Security via a card, a W-2, or another government-issued document.

The pilot program does not apply to select employees of the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development and Motor Vehicle Commission who specialize in in-person services.

Wannabe school bus drivers in New Jersey, for at least the next couple of months, won't have to be mechanical experts in order to secure a license.
