President Barack Obama says officials from all levels of government will do everything they can to assess the damage from Hurricane Isaac and figure out how to help.
Days after Isaac hammered Louisiana and Mississippi with winds and rain, much of a parish southeast of New Orleans was still flooded and thousand were without power.
Isaac's whistling winds lashed this city and the storm dumped nearly a foot of rain on its desolate streets, but the system of levee pumps, walls and gates appeared to withstand one of the stiffest challenges yet. To the north and south, though, people had to be evacuated or rescued as Isaac lingered over Louisiana.
Superdome chief Doug Thornton says Isaac has caused only minimal damage to property surrounding the stadium and that the dome will be ready to host Tulane's scheduled opener against Rutgers on Saturday if the schools still want to play the game.
Hurricane Isaac sidestepped New Orleans on Wednesday, sending the worst of its howling wind and heavy rain into a cluster of rural fishing villages that had few defenses against the slow-moving storm that could bring days of unending rain.
