North Carolina coast survives Hurricane Arthur
KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (AP) -- Proving far less damaging than feared, Hurricane Arthur left tens of thousands of people without power Friday in a swipe at North Carolina's dangerously exposed Outer Banks, then brought lousy Fourth of July beach weather to the Northeast as it veered out to sea.
Vacationers leave as Arthur nears North Carolina
RODANTHE, N.C. (AP) -- Hurricane Arthur gained strength in the Atlantic on Thursday and threatened to strike near the North Carolina coast on Independence Day, prompting thousands of vacationers and residents to leave parts of the state's popular but flood-prone Outer Banks.
Vulnerable to Disasters
In a nationwide, county-by-county map, New Jersey is one solid orange blob, meaning every home can easily become the victim of a natural disaster.
