Thousands sign petition after teen killed on first day of school
An online petition signed by over 4,400 in two weeks asked for Hunterdon County commissioners to improve safety at the intersection which claimed the life of teen Sophia DeTorres.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson said Sophia DeTorres, 16, of the Pittstown section of Hunterdon County was a passenger in a three vehicle crash Thursday morning at Hogback Road (Route 617) and Lowers Lansdown Road.

The the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Hogback Road, (County Route 617) and Lower Lansdown Road in Franklin Township. Three people were taken to hospitals for treatment of their injuries. One person died at the crash scene.
