Significantly more New Jersey students are filing appeals to earn their diplomas following controversial changes to high school graduation requirements.
Eight high school seniors from New Jersey have been named to the 51st class of U.S. Presidential Scholars, an elite academic honor extended to just 141 senior nationwide.

Newark's advisory school board will soon get back authority over its fiscal operations and will begin voting on district contracts after 18 years of state control.
"The school funding formula we have now works because it's fair," says Democratic State Senate President Steve Sweeney. "It's not broken. It's just never been fully funded."
