It is much too soon for either New Jersey's higher education institutions or Gov. Phil Murphy to be able to issue any definitive decisions or guidance, but the Garden State's 18 community colleges are expecting many students will lean on them in the fall.
Community college students have until Sept. 15 to apply for financial aid and – if their incomes are $65,000 or less – have a tuition-free school year.
The program's first semester cost around $20M for grants to students. Murphy sought $58.5M for two semesters. Lawmakers OK'd $25M – and expanded eligibility.
