While there are many special things about the beaches along the Jersey shore, only one town can boast that they have a nude beach. Sandy Hook is the only shore town that has that claim to fame with Gunnison Beach. But if you're a little more conservative and want to avoid getting some sunburn in some awkward places, there's still plenty of great things to do.

Here are some fun suggestions to check out this summer when you go to Sandy Hook.

Ride the Sea Streak Ferry

There's no better way than to see the beautiful landscape of NJ's shore line than from on the water itself. Take a relaxing ride on the Sea Streak Ferry. There's a ferry service that travels between NYC and Sandy Hook.  Tickets are available at the dock for purchase.

Let's ride a bike

If you're looking to some exercise and see all that Sandy Hook has to offer, biking is a great option. There's a seven-mile path that begins at the park entrance and loops around through Fort Hancock.

See the legendary Sandy Hook Lighthouse

You can't visit Sandy Hook without seeing the legendary lighthouse. The Sandy Hook lighthouse is the oldest working lighthouse in the United States. Located in the the northern end of Gateway National Recreation Area. The lighthouse has been in service since 1764. Admission to the Sandy Hook lighthouse is free and you can call the visitor center for times of tours (732) 872-5970.

Stop for a quick bite at a food truck

Sandy Hook has started a new venture with mobile food trucks. Throughout the summer, an array of vendors will be present offering some amazing food options. The food trucks will be located in parking lots during the beach season.

Wanna grab dinner?

After a long day of fun, you're going to be hungry. Try wapping up the day by grabbing a bite to eat at the Windansea Restaurant.  You can choose to dine inside or waterside but the water views of the bay and ocean are part of the overall great dining experience. Have a drink at the tiki bar while you wait for your table. Whether you want seafood or a streak, The Windansea restaurant has you covered.

Bahr's Landing

When a restaurant has been open since 1917, you know they're doing something right. Bahr's Landing is one of NJ's great landmarks. A family-run restaurant that is a must-try for any seafood fan.  Enjoy the food and atmosphere or, if you're in a rush, you can order online for take out as well!
