Record Ribbon-Cutting For Jersey Shore [VIDEO]
Guinness World Records confirms that a ribbon-cutting to mark the reopening of the Jersey shore following Superstorm Sandy has set a new world record.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie cut a ribbon stretching for more than 5 ½ miles on Friday as part of ceremonies marking the arrival of Memorial Day weekend and the summer tourism season.
Mike Janela, an adjudicator with Guinness, says the ribbon bested the previous record by more than a mile in length.
The ribbon symbolically tied together several shore communities that were hard-hit by the Oct. 29 storm.
Christie appeared on the "Today" show to tell a national audience that the Jersey Shore is back in business and ready for visitors.
