NJ Trial On Tap in Alleged iPad Breach

Jurors are being selected in New Jersey for the federal trial of a man charged with illegally accessing e-mail addresses of more than 100,000 iPad users.

Andrew Auernheimer was arrested with another man in 2011 and charged with identity theft and conspiracy to gain unauthorized access to computers.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says Auernheimer, of Fayetteville, Ark., and Daniel Spitler tricked AT&T's website into divulging thousands of email addresses including those of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, film mogul Harvey Weinstein and Rahm Emanuel, then the White House chief of staff.

Spitler pleaded guilty last year.

Last week a federal judge rejected arguments by Auernheimer's lawyer that claimed federal law on computer fraud is vague and that his client served a public interest by exposing AT&T's security flaws.
