NJ Man Sentenced For Beating Wife with Cable Wire
A northern New Jersey man who repeatedly beat his wife with a cable wire has been sentenced to 22 years in state prison.
Essex County prosecutors say 32-year-old Trevor Rodrigues of East Orange must serve more than 13 years of the term imposed Wednesday before he becomes eligible for parole. A jury had convicted him last month on numerous charges, including aggravated assault, terroristic threats and weapons offenses.
Prosecutors say the charges stemmed from repeated abuse that occurred during a 25-day span from December 2010 to January 2011.
They say Rodrigues would often brutally beat his 31-year-old wife with the cable wire when he became annoyed over minor things such as a child crying.
