1. Chasing Amy

Waaaay before Ben Affleck was Batman, he was Holden in this R-rated comedy from Monmouth County's own Kevin Smith. As with many of Smith's movies, it unfolds in Jersey, so keep an eye out for some familiar streets.

2. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

Another Kevin Smith R-rated comedy. It starts out in Jersey with Smith's alter-ego Silent Bob and Jason Mewes as Jay.  Since Smith has confirmed a sequel is in the works, why not refresh on the original?  Lots of cameos in this one, including the late Carrie Fisher.

3. Cheaper by the Dozen

The original comedy from the 1950's is based on the real-life story of the Gilbreth family, which included 12 siblings growing up in Montclair. (The remake with Steven Martin was set in Chicago, though it does have NJ native Piper Perabo!)

4. Annie

The 1980's original musical shot some scenes at Monmouth University and in Newark. Its young star also grew up to become a Jersey Girl. Aileen Quinn graduated from Drew University. Plus, co-stars Albert Finney, Carol Burnett, Bernadette Peters and Tim Curry are always worth another watch!

5. Burn After Reading

This Coen Brothers dark comedy follows gym employees who stumble into the world of government spies. Parts were filmed in Paramus. The cast includes Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and Tilda Swinton.

6. Hellboy

This sci-fi action fan favorite was filmed in Europe but much of it is set in Newark. Specifically, at the made-up 'Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.' Ron Perlman and Selma Blair co-star.

7. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

If you haven't seen a young Jeff Goldblum as 'Dr. New Jersey,' now's your chance! Peter Weller plays the sci-fi spoof's title hero, who's a neurosurgeon, martial arts master, and rock star.

8. Friday the 13th

The classic horror movie unfolds in a fake NJ summer camp- but really was shot in the Warren County communities of Blairstown and Hope.

9. Desperately Seeking Susan

If you're looking for a totally 80's movie fix with a Jersey spin, here's your pick. Rosanna Arquette plays a bored housewife in Fort Lee, who gets tangled up with a bohemian New Yorker played by Madonna.

10. Across the Universe

This musical featuring Beatles classics is set in the 60's across England, America and Vietnam. But parts were shot at Princeton! Evan Rachel Wood and Jim Sturgess star as Lucy and Jude, respectively.

Bonus NJ movie worth watching: The Station Agent was written and directed by Union County native Tom McCarthy. It stars Jersey native Peter Dinklage (infamous on 'Game of Thrones' as Tyrion Lannister). It's on Hulu for subscribers.

And, I'll save you the trouble of searching. Garden State and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle are both missing from Netflix and Amazon, for now.
