EWING — A man was fatally shot early Thursday at his home across the street from The College of New Jersey campus.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said two men walked up a driveway where Devon Green, 23, was sitting with a friend in the carport of his home at 76 Lanning St. just after 1 a.m.

The men opened fire and shot Green several times while the friend was not hurt. Green was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was the first homicide in Ewing in 2017, according to the Uniform Crime Reporting data compiled by State Police through September. There was two homicide in 2016.

The neighborhood is located directly across Pennington Road (Route 31) from TCNJ.

The school said Thursday that they "have not increased security on campus beyond our standard protocols. However, we have increased patrols in the neighborhood where the incident took place for the safety of our students living in that area."

Spokesman Luke Sacks said Green was not enrolled as a student at TCNJ.

Onofri asked anyone with information about the incident to call the Mercer County Homicide Task Force at 609-989-6406.
