Dennis Oury had pleaded guilty in 2009 to mail fraud conspiracy and failing to file a tax return.

Oury was indicted with former Bergen County Democratic leader Joseph Ferriero. Federal prosecutors contended the two men used their political influence to get government contracts for their jointly owned consulting firm without disclosing that they stood to benefit from the deals.

Oury testified against Ferriero, who was convicted in 2009. But Ferriero's conviction was thrown out after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling narrowed the definition of the so-called theft of honest services law.

The 62-year-old Oury currently lives in Naples, Fla.
