There’s a statue in Happy Valley commemorating the legacy of the late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.

Here was my first reaction upon hearing the news about the revelation that he, along with president Graham Spanier, athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz “repeatedly concealed critical facts” into Jerry Sandusky’s sexual involvement with underage boys on the Penn State campus.

Take down the statue!

If 99 percent of everything he meant to Penn State was noble, this 1 percent obliterates all that.

Take down the statue!

No one will ever look at that statue and think of the legendary coach the same way again.
Take down the statue!

Will Penn State reputation forever be sullied in the face of these revelations.

Time will tell but the image that the statue evokes will always be a reminder of the one noble act Joe Paterno could have done, but didn’t.

Take down the statue!
